Design matrix and contrast for 3x2 2-way ANOVA

Hi Dr.Zalesky,

Thank you for your efforts in creating this wonderful tool. It's efficient and intuitive, hoever, I'm not sure my design matrix and contrast are correct.  We are now performing ANOVA with using NBS tools for 2 factors (3 for group conditions and  2 for gender). Assume that there were 4 patient (2 male and 2 female) for each conditions group, namely 12 patients in total. the example of design matrix and contrast are attached and as follow:

subject group   main
effect for conditions
  main
effect for gender
interaction effect
1 condition1_male 1 1 0 1 1 0
2 condition1_male 1 1 0 1 1 0
3 condition1_female 1 1 0 -1 -1 0
4 condition1_female 1 1 0 -1 -1 0
5 condition2_male 1 0 1 1 0 1
6 condition2_male 1 0 1 1 0 1
7 condition2_female 1 0 1 -1 0 -1
8 condition2_female 1 0 1 -1 0 -1
9 condition3_male 1 -1 -1 1 -1 -1
10 condition3_male 1 -1 -1 1 -1 -1
11 condition3_female 1 -1 -1 -1 1 1
12 condition3_female 1 -1 -1 -1 1 1

contrast for condition 0 1 1 0 0 0
  for gender 0 0 0 1 0 0
  for interaction 0 0 0 0 1 1

I wonder if the above design matrix and contrast are correct?

RE: Design matrix and contrast for 3x2 2-way ANOVA

Hi Yijie,

the design matrix and contrasts appear to be correct.

However, a sample size of 10 would most likely be too small to test this relatively complex design. Perhaps 10 was used to provide an example only.
